Since 2019, 72-year-old Félix Cárdenas from Ñemby, Paraguay, has followed the same nightly routine: waiting at a bus stop for his daughter, Belén, to return home from work.
Every night, when Belén arrives, Félix walks alongside her for the rest of the journey home. He began doing this because he worried about her safety while she walked alone in the darkness.
Even though Belén is now an adult, Félix’s concern for her has never faded. He simply wants to make sure she reaches home safely, away from potential dangers along the way. For him, being a father is a lifelong commitment, not a responsibility that ends when a child grows up.
Yet Félix also understands the importance of independence. He wants his daughter to learn to look after herself while knowing that she always has someone who cares about her. His actions are a quiet expression of love rather than an attempt to control her life.
For years, he has continued this simple routine without seeking attention or recognition. He waits, welcomes his daughter, and walks beside her until they reach home safely.
Their story has touched hearts online, reminding people that a parent’s love doesn’t disappear with age. Sometimes, love isn’t expressed through grand gestures or expensive gifts. Sometimes, it’s an elderly father waiting at a bus stop late at night, simply because he wants his daughter to get home safely.
Because no matter how old we become, there is something deeply comforting about knowing that someone still waits for us to come home.
