The Viral 70LB Baby That Was Featured On Jerry Springer Is All Grown Up, And You Better Sit Down Before Seeing Him Today

Zach Strenkert appeared on The Jerry Springer Show when he was just a year old, weighing 70 pounds due to Simpson-Golabi-Behmel Syndrome (SGBS), a rare genetic disorder that caused him to gain 2.5 pounds every two weeks and grow rapidly. The viral video of his appearance, originally aired in 1996, brought him unexpected fame long before social media existed.

Now 29, Zach has spoken openly about the challenges of growing up in the spotlight. He described feeling like a “circus act” after being featured on shows like Oprah and Inside Edition, where he was often labeled “the TV kid.” Despite assumptions that his family sought fame or money, Zach explained their goal was simply to raise awareness of SGBS and get medical help, which was difficult to access.

The recent Netflix documentary Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action revisits the eccentric show but offers little new insight, according to Zach. Once weighing 485 pounds, he is now focused on improving his health.

Jerry Springer, who hosted the show for 27 years, passed away in 2023 from pancreatic cancer. His family remembered him for his unique ability to connect with people, leaving a legacy of intellect, humor, and heart that continues to resonate.
