Jay Kay, the lead singer of Jamiroquai, gave one of the more candid celebrity breakup accounts on record when he discussed his brief 1990s relationship with actress Winona Ryder in a 2005 interview with FHM magazine.
According to the interview, Kay said he enjoyed his short fling with the Hollywood star but found it exhausting to keep up with her. “She has these enormous breasts – bigger than they look on film,” he told FHM. He went on to describe her as having “this habit of constantly wanting to play hide the sausage,” adding simply, “It was exhausting.”
The comments, first reported by IOL at the time, resurfaced two decades later and spread widely across social media, where the story was repeatedly summarized as Kay ending the relationship because Ryder’s breasts were too large and her s*x drive too high. Kay, now in his 50s and still fronting Jamiroquai, built his career on hits including “Virtual Insanity” and has won a Grammy and an MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year.
Ryder’s representative addressed the remarks shortly after they were published in 2005, telling reporters, “I will not dignify that with a response.” Ryder herself never publicly commented on the story, either at the time or when it went viral again decades later.
