I walked into a pet store for something small… and walked out changed forever.

I walked into a pet store for a quick errand, nothing important, nothing meaningful. I never expected it to change anything. Then, almost by accident, I noticed a crate set apart, marked not available. Inside was a tiny Cane Corso puppy, gray and white, with oversized paws tucked beneath her. Her soft eyes watched quietly, carrying a patience far beyond her age, as if she had already learned how to wait.

They told me she had seizures. That her future was uncertain. She wasn’t there for attention or adoption, only for a decision. Somehow, she looked straight at me, calm yet weary, as if asking if this was where her story would end. I didn’t think it through. I simply said, “She’s coming home with me.”

I named her Light, a reminder that even in fragile stories, compassion still shines. She doesn’t need fixing. She is perfect, resilient, and teaches me daily what love truly means.
