The president and first lady made a striking return to the public eye on Wednesday night — their appearance marking a new chapter in his expanding influence beyond politics.
Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, were photographed making a rare public appearance on the evening of June 11, 2025, as they attended the opening night performance of “Les Misérables” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
The first couple arrived hand-in-hand, walking the red carpet before heading inside the venue. The president wore a classic black tuxedo with a white shirt and black bow tie, while the first lady opted for an elegant one-shoulder black gown.
Her dress featured a cinched waist with a gold embellishment, which she paired with pointed metallic heels and soft, glossy waves in her hair. At one point, she added oversized black sunglasses — a bold statement that contrasted with her otherwise refined evening ensemble.
Their appearance at the Kennedy Center marks a notable moment in Trump’s latest chapter of public engagements. In February 2025, he took over the leadership of the institution following the dismissal of its former president, Deborah Rutter.
Donald Trump was voted in as chair by his newly appointed board and later named Richard Grenell as the organization’s new president.
The pair’s return to the spotlight did not go unnoticed. Social media quickly lit up with mixed reactions from viewers who caught glimpses of their outing through various news and fan accounts.
Followers on Instagram were divided, with some praising the couple and others offering sharp criticism. One commenter wrote, “She is just Stunning and Classy [sic]!!!” Another added, “Gosh she’s pretty [sic].”
A third person declared, “The most beautiful couple in history.” However, others were more critical. One noted, “Not a smile to be found anywhere near these two.” Another person remarked, “His wife hates him lol [sic].”
“Great show! Her, pretending to be the loving wife. Him, well, I don’t know what he’s doing [sic],” opined one netizen. Meanwhile, another stated, “Her body language says she hates her husband.”
People on Facebook echoed similar sentiments. One comment read, “Wonder what he had to pay her for her services [sic].” Another person criticized, “Does he know how to button a jacket always disgraceful [sic].” Meanwhile, one admirer penned, “Trump and Melania bringing that presidential glam to the red carpet!”
Despite the polarizing opinions online, the Trumps’ presence at the Kennedy Center opening sparked conversations across platforms, marking yet another moment of visibility amid a year already filled with high-profile moves.
