A cop in a small Ohio town had to move fast after a report of a missing house cat came in. Most brushed it off, but he went out to look anyway. On a quiet backroad, he froze—a bear, rare for the area, was crossing a field with something white in its mouth. His flashlight caught it: the missing cat. He followed the bear into the woods, shouting and flashing his light, but nothing worked. Finally, he used his last resort. It was enough. The bear dropped the cat and fled, and the terrified pet ran into his arms. By morning, he was all over the news—hero to some, controversial to others. But the owner said only, “He did what he had to do.”
