A family accidentally texted a stranger to announce their baby’s arrival. Instead of ignoring the mistake, two brothers showed up at the hospital with gifts for a newborn they had never met.

On March 19, 2016, Mark and Lindsey Lashley were preparing to welcome their son at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, Georgia.

Like many excited families, their relatives were sending text updates about the birth.

One message announced that Lindsey was at the hospital and progressing through labor.

There was just one problem.

Someone had accidentally included a phone number belonging to a complete stranger.

The number connected the family to Dennis Williams, who was with his brother Deorick in the Tallahassee, Florida, area.

When the brothers received the unexpected update, they congratulated the family and politely explained the mistake.

Normally, that would have been the end of the conversation.

But more messages followed.

Eventually, the family shared a photograph of their newborn son, Cason Knox, along with news of his arrival.

Rather than simply wishing them well and moving on, the brothers had another idea.

They asked whether they could visit the baby.

The family agreed.

So Dennis and Deorick went shopping for gifts, buying diapers, baby bottles and pacifiers.

Then they made their way to the hospital.

Imagine being in a hospital room celebrating the arrival of your baby when two people you’ve never met walk through the door carrying presents.

That’s exactly what happened.

The brothers met Mark and Lindsey, congratulated them and posed for a photograph with the new parents.

Later, a family member shared the story on Facebook, thanking the two visitors for being so thoughtful toward people they didn’t know.

The photographs and text-message screenshots quickly spread across social media, attracting attention from national news outlets.

When ABC News interviewed Deorick, he explained that the family had invited them and he saw no reason not to bring gifts.

A simple mistake in someone’s contact list had unexpectedly brought two families together for a happy occasion.
