Following what appeared to be an extended period of progressive dominance following former President Barack Obama’s re-election, the far-left is beginning to encounter significant resistance due to its unpopular position on Israel. This situation has resulted in one member of the ‘Squad’ being on the verge of losing a primary election, while another, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, has already lost his primary and will not serve in Congress when the next term commences. This development has caused concern for Rep. AOC, another member of the Squad, who successfully secured her primary election.
To provide context, a key factor contributing to Rep. Bowman’s defeat was his remarks regarding Israel amid the Israel-Palestine conflict, which prompted AIPAC, the American-Israeli Political Action Committee, to invest an astonishing $15 million into the primary campaign aimed at defeating him. This AIPAC initiative was successful, much to the dismay of the Squad.
Among those who expressed their views on his defeat was the far-left Rep. AOC, who addressed reporters regarding Rep. Bowman’s loss and the perceived lack of support from Democratic leadership. She remarked, “This was about $20 million in significant funding being utilized in an unprecedented manner, unlike anything previously witnessed in American history, point blank period.”
She further stated, “And I believe we need to engage in a genuine discussion about AIPAC. What we truly need to discuss is how an organization that is primarily Republican and largely financed by Republicans is intervening and injecting substantial funds while playing an extremely divisive role within the Democratic Party.”
