The most recent impeachment attempt against Trump, supported by Democrats, was effectively concluded before it could gain any momentum, as the House decisively voted to table the motion on Tuesday.
In a move that has become somewhat customary for U.S. Representative Al Green (D-TX), the backbench Democrat initiated his sixth attempt to impeach President Trump. Green had previously attempted to bring impeachment articles to the floor three times during the president’s first term, with two of those attempts making vague allegations of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors,’ while a third resolution was introduced following a disparaging tweet.
Just shy of six months into Trump’s second term, Green has already made three attempts at impeachment. The first occurred in February, when Green proposed an impeachment motion based on the president’s remarks regarding the Gaza Strip. The second attempt, which came after a similarly unsuccessful effort by Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), accused Trump of ‘authoritarianism’ for enforcing immigration laws.
Dissatisfied with his previous five failures, Green made another attempt on Tuesday, this time contending that President Trump’s military actions against Iranian nuclear sites were unlawful, a claim that has been thoroughly discredited by legal experts and even some Democratic lawmakers.
