The Trump Administration achieved another significant victory when new data from the U.S. Border Patrol indicated that no illegal immigrants entered the United States last month, marking a remarkable decrease compared to the same period last year, when approximately 62,000 individuals unlawfully crossed the border under the Biden administration.
For context, during an interview with Fox News on June 18, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks stated that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border had reached an unprecedented low in May 2025, effectively demonstrating that the president’s efforts to combat illegal immigration are having a substantial effect on border security.
In his discussion with Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt, Chief Banks characterized the shift in illegal immigration statistics as “phenomenal,” further stating, “Anyone who is concerned about national security understands that, under the previous administration, we were experiencing record numbers of individuals entering the country illegally and being released into the country… And to see a reduction from over 62,000 to zero, we are now achieving record numbers in the right direction.”
Additionally, the U.S. Border Patrol chief emphasized that the border is now “closer to operational security” than it has ever been. However, Banks noted that his agency is not yet prepared to declare the issue resolved. Nonetheless, he expressed that success is “fast approaching.” He remarked, “Just two days ago, we set another record – 141 entries at the southwest border. All of these entries have been apprehended, and none will be released.”]}
Moreover, Banks attributed the significant change to President Trump, expressing gratitude for the president’s support of the Border Patrol in its efforts to safeguard America from perilous illegal immigrant criminals. The chief informed Earhardt, “We have consistently maintained that the United States Border Patrol possesses the expertise to secure the border. What we require is leadership, and under the guidance of President Trump and Secretary Noem, we are demonstrating precisely what we have asserted for years: Allow us to enforce the laws, and we will accomplish the task.”
In addition, the Border Patrol chief expressed his belief that “the American people are witnessing” the achievements of his agency and are taking it seriously. He remarked, “We are merely at the beginning. We are far from finished.” Furthermore, the chief emphasized that the essence of his agency’s operations did not lie in new legislation, but rather in “being permitted to enforce the laws.” He elaborated, “The prior administration established policies that undermined the laws and hindered Border Patrol agents from fulfilling their duties.”
Continuing to commend President Trump for his influence on the success of the Border Patrol, Banks stated, “This president arrived and declared, ‘Nope, go out and perform your duties,’ and look, we are achieving results. As you mentioned, we are seeing numbers trending positively. We are achieving figures that enhance the security of this nation, and the Border Patrol is executing what we have always been capable of doing.”
When Chief Banks shared a clip of his appearance on Fox via X, conservatives expressed their strong support in the comments, with one user on X stating, “That’s what we voted for! Truly, thanks to every Border Patrol agent who is diligently working to make this a reality!”
