Mom who beat cancer four times allegedly shot dead in tragic accident

After nearly 20 years of courageously battling cancer, Jennifer James, a 49-year-old single mother of four from Berthoud, Colorado, was tragically killed when a stray bullet flew through her home’s window on April 28, 2025. She was undergoing chemotherapy at the time.

Jennifer, who had beaten cancer four times, managed to call 911 after being shot, but sadly died before help arrived. Known for her positivity and devotion to her children, her death has left the community heartbroken.

Police arrested 20-year-old Ebenezer Worku, who admitted to accidentally firing the gun from his car. He now faces first-degree murder charges and is held on a $1.25 million bond.

Jennifer’s daughter, Ashley, described her as the most selfless mother, saying, “It feels like a cruel joke that she survived so much, only to be taken from us like this.” A memorial was held on May 14 to honor her life and legacy.
