**Georgia Election Takes Unexpected Turn After Officials Discover Missing Memory Card**
Republican state Rep. Gerald Greene went from trailing to leading in his race against Democrat Harry James after election officials discovered a missing memory card containing previously unreported votes in Seminole County, Georgia.
James had initially been ahead by 58 votes. However, after the additional results were uploaded, Greene moved ahead by approximately 262 votes, dramatically changing the unofficial outcome.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced an investigation into how the memory card was overlooked. Officials also discovered a discrepancy between the number of voters who checked in and the number of ballots initially reported.
“That is unacceptable, and we intend to find out exactly how it happened,” Raffensperger said.
The discovery has drawn attention because the race could have implications for control of the Georgia House, where the balance of power remains extremely close.
Greene, who has served in the state legislature since 1982, is now ahead, but the results remain subject to official certification.
Officials are working to determine how the reporting error occurred and whether additional corrective measures are necessary.
The unexpected development has added another twist to an already closely watched election, with both parties awaiting the final certified results.
