She does her own makeup, eats independently, and has even taken up free-diving! She does it all with one leg, which she lovingly calls her “magic leg.” 🦿💖
Victoria Salcedo was just five years old when her life changed forever. In November 2001, while playing at home in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she touched a high-voltage wire with a metal rod. The electric shock caused devastating third-degree burns, and doctors had to amputate both her arms and her left leg.
Because she was so young, she barely remembers life before the accident. Although doctors fitted her with prosthetic arms, she chose not to use them. Instead, she learned to do everyday tasks using her right foot, developing remarkable independence along the way.
As she grew older, Victoria became a model, studied communications at university, and built a social media following by sharing glimpses of her daily life. Then, in 2021, twenty years after the accident, she took on a bold new challenge: competing in Miss Ecuador. She was widely reported to be the first woman with a physical disability to compete for the title.
Although she didn’t make it into the final ten, Victoria’s goal went far beyond winning a crown. She wanted to inspire people to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams, even when others doubt them. Her journey is a powerful reminder that our limitations don’t have to define us. Sometimes, the greatest victory isn’t winning a competition—it’s showing the world what’s possible. 🦿🌈
