For 28 years, Karl Bushby has been chasing a goal that once seemed impossible:
To walk around the world without using transport to move himself forward.
Since 1998, the former British paratrooper has crossed scorching deserts, dense jungles, frozen seas and some of the world’s most challenging borders.
He trekked through the Darién Gap.
He crossed the frozen Bering Strait.
He endured years of visa issues, border closures and wars.
And when there was no legal route across the Caspian Sea, he even swam it.
Now, after nearly three decades, Karl has finally made it back to Britain.
He reached the coast near Dover after swimming across the English Channel from France.
But there’s still one final chapter.
He has roughly 250 miles left to walk across England to Hull, where his mother is waiting for him.
A journey that was expected to take around 12 years has stretched into 28.
After travelling around the planet almost entirely under his own power, Karl’s ultimate finish line is now closer than ever:
His mother’s front door.
