The Milan-Cortina Winter Games delivered unforgettable moments, once again proving why the Olympics remain one of the world’s most captivating sporting events. One of the standout highlights came from American figure skater Ilia Malinin, who electrified the crowd during the team event by landing a backflip — a move rarely seen in Olympic competition for decades. The arena erupted as he completed the daring maneuver, symbolizing the return of a technique once considered too dangerous for official routines.
The backflip had been banned for years due to safety concerns, with the last legal Olympic version dating back to the 1970s. While occasionally performed in exhibitions, strict rules kept it out of competition until recent changes allowed skaters to attempt it again. Malinin seized the opportunity, and although he finished second overall, his performance quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the Games.
Elsewhere, the Olympics also highlighted the importance of discipline and sportsmanship. A separate judo match ended in controversy after emotions escalated following a decisive bout. Officials intervened and later confirmed disciplinary action, reinforcing that respect remains a core Olympic value.
