A powerful earthquake struck parts of Myanmar, southern China, and northern Thailand early Monday, killing dozens and injuring hundreds. The 3:42 a.m. quake had its epicenter near the Myanmar–China border in Yunnan province at a depth of about 10 kilometers, according to the USGS, and was strongly felt in northern Thailand, prompting mass evacuations.

Myanmar was hit hardest, with at least 48 people killed, more than 300 injured, and dozens missing. Several regions are under a state of emergency as rescue teams search for survivors amid collapsed buildings, particularly in the city of Lashio.
