Fox News’ Joey Jones honored with prestigious journalism award: “It’s about something bigger than me”

Fox News personality Johnny “Joey” Jones added another major honor to his name this weekend and his acceptance speech was as humble as it was powerful.

The Big Weekend Show co-host was presented with the John R. Tex McCrary Award for Excellence in Journalism at the 2025 Patriot Award Gala in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The black-tie celebration was hosted by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center.

A night of honor and heart
The event, emceed by actor Gary Sinise, recognized Americans who embody patriotism, leadership, service, and sacrifice. Jones fit all of those qualities and then some.

Taking the stage before a room filled with decorated heroes, the retired Marine staff sergeant spoke with emotion and gratitude. Later, on The Big Weekend Show, Jones reflected on the honor of being in the same room with 32 Medal of Honor recipients.

“When I do that job of TV presenter, television host, commentator, it isn’t to get an award. I really thought my award days were over with the Purple Heart,” he said. “I hope the only reason I’m being recognized tonight is that I’ve lent that platform that I somehow obtained to something bigger than me — to other people’s sacrifices and service. That’s all I want to do.”

From battlefield to broadcast
Before his career at Fox News, Jones served as an EOD technician in the U.S. Marine Corps, where his life changed forever in 2010 after an IED explosion in Afghanistan cost him both legs.

Rather than let tragedy define him, Jones transformed his story into one of resilience and purpose. Each year on August 6, the anniversary of the blast, he marks what he calls his “Alive Day.”

Now, as one of Fox News’ most respected voices, Jones uses his platform to spotlight veterans, military families, and everyday Americans who embody courage.

“Lending his platform to others”
Jones’ co-hosts on The Big Weekend Show have often praised him for grounding political debate with authenticity and heart. Whether discussing national security, patriotism, or personal sacrifice, his perspective comes from lived experience.

And while the black-tie gala was a night of recognition, Joey made it clear the spotlight wasn’t really about him.

“I’ve lent my platform to something worth telling you about — to other people’s sacrifices and service,” he reminded the crowd.
