For context, during an interview with Fox News on June 18, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks stated that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border had reached an unprecedented low in May 2025, effectively demonstrating that the president’s efforts to combat illegal immigration are having a substantial effect on border security.
In his discussion with Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt, Chief Banks characterized the shift in illegal immigration statistics as “phenomenal,” further stating, “Anyone who is concerned about national security understands that, under the previous administration, we were experiencing record numbers of individuals entering the country illegally and being released into the country… And to see a reduction from over 62,000 to zero, we are now achieving record numbers in the right direction.”
Additionally, the U.S. Border Patrol chief emphasized that the border is now “closer to operational security” than it has ever been.
