Each day on set, after four painstaking hours in the makeup chair, he emerged unrecognizable as the charming Scottish nanny, Euphegenia Doubtfire. Crew members would do double takes, extras whispered about “the sweet old lady visiting the set,” and Robin — never breaking character — would critique the soup or ask for help fixing her toaster.
He lived and breathed the role, improvising endlessly and turning every scene into comedy gold. Director Chris Columbus said editing the film was nearly impossible because Robin delivered a dozen brilliant takes for every moment.
