Donald Trump has suggested that there might be ways for him to serve a third term in the White House. The idea has caused outrage across the political world.
The Constitution says, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” That line from the 22nd Amendment has been around since 1951, but Trump’s comments made people question if there could be a workaround.

One of his former advisers said Trump could still end up President in 2028 and mentioned that there were several ways they were looking into the rules about term limits.
One of the ideas discussed was that Trump could run as a vice presidential candidate, have his running mate win, and then step down so Trump could take over. Some people called this creative, but legal experts quickly said that the 12th Amendment makes it impossible since someone who cannot be President also cannot be Vice President.
Another analyst said the whole thing is an implausible loophole argument. Still, the idea has gained attention online and caused a lot of heated debate.
Many Democrats said it was a dangerous idea that would go against the will of voters. Trump did say that it could happen but added that he would never do that with his friend JD Vance.
