WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a solemn and emotional ceremony at the White House, former President Donald J. Trump posthumously awarded conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The event took place on what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday, honoring his legacy as a passionate voice for free speech, faith, and American values.
Speaking before an audience of family members, Turning Point USA staff, and close friends, President Trump praised Kirk’s “unwavering dedication to the next generation of American patriots.”
“Charlie Kirk inspired millions of young people to love their country, to think for themselves, and to never back down from the truth,” Trump said. “He was a warrior for freedom — and his voice will never be silenced.”
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA at just 18 years old, became one of the most recognized young figures in conservative politics. Through his media presence, college tours, and advocacy, he energized a generation of students to embrace free-market principles and challenge what he often described as “the leftist monopoly on education.”
The ceremony included a touching tribute video featuring highlights from Kirk’s speeches, interviews, and grassroots events across the country. Melania Trump presented the medal to Kirk’s parents, who expressed gratitude for the recognition of their son’s lifelong mission.
“Charlie lived and breathed America,” said Bob Kirk, his father. “This honor means the world to our family. He truly believed that the best days of this nation are still ahead.”
The Presidential Medal of Freedom has historically been awarded to individuals who have made “especially meritorious contributions” to the United States’ national interests, world peace, or cultural endeavors.
President Trump closed the ceremony with a moment of silence, adding:
“May God bless Charlie Kirk, and may God bless the United States of America.”
