They Took One Last Picture—No One Knew It Would Be Their Final Goodbye

A tragic helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River on April 10 claimed the lives of Agustin Escobar,

a top executive at Siemens Mobility, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children.

The family, visiting from Barcelona,

had just taken a sightseeing tour when their Bell 206 helicopter reportedly lost,

its rotors and crashed near Manhattan’s

Pier 40 around 3:15 PM. The pilot also died,

in the accident.

Heartbreaking photos showed the family smiling in front of the helicopter shortly before takeoff.

Four of the six people on board died at the scene,

while the remaining two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.Escobar,

who had recently been appointed Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens,

was known for his calm leadership and deep commitment to his family.

His wife, Merce, also held a leadership position at Siemens Energy. Friends and colleagues,

described the couple as loving parents and admired professionals.

Their three children were remembered as joyful and close-knit.

Spanish Prime Minister

Pedro Sánchez expressed condolences, calling the incident an “unimaginable tragedy.”

Investigations into the cause of the midair failure are ongoing.
